Manton and the World Wars

The young men of Manton who gave their lives during the two World Wars are remembered on a memorial cross in the churchyard. It is in the form of a Celtic cross of rough-hewn Cornish granite. A Crusader's sword is carved on the cross, representing the old Crusader custom of striking a sword into the ground and kneeling before it as if before a cross.
